Social Media Policies by Government and Non-Profits

My friends and colleagues in the public education field are searching high and low for examples of social media policies, particularly those adopted in public education. There are a variety of sources out there for reference and ideas, although public education is just beginning the process of examining old and outdated Acceptable Use Policies and addressing the whole arena of social media guidance.
Here are a few resources for those of you beginning this process:

The first two examples are from the Papillion-La Vista School District in Nebraska, which were shared with me at the National School PR Association’s annual conference in July by the district’s public information specialist. Papillion-La Vista has two policies — one governing use of Facebook and the other providing guidance on the use of social media in general. I have posted both as PDFs here, along with a PDF of New York’s Erie 1 BOCES social media guidelines, recently adopted.

In addition to these valuable resources, check out the Social Media for Educators Facebook page, the Social Media Guidelines for Schools wiki, and Social Media Governance, a pretty comprehensive list of non-profit and government policies.
